Revision of laws on language, education and media under the pretext of European integration is unacceptable. Joint statement


Noting the importance of Ukraine’s European integration and supporting efforts to start negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership as soon as possible,
we, representatives of Ukrainian civic organizations and movements, consider it necessary to draw the attention of the Ukrainian authorities to the inadmissibility of carrying out any actions aimed at revising the language legislation and weakening the mechanisms for the protection of the state language under the pretext of European integration.

Ukrainian consumers have the right be served in Ukrainian — activist

For the past several years, Lviv native Sviatoslav Litynskyi, a programming instructor, has been defending the right of Ukrainian consumers to Ukrainian-language services and product labeling.

His successes include a Ukrainian passport without a Russian translation, Ukrainian-language bank receipts, the labeling of household appliances and electronic equipment in Ukrainian, and an apology from Minister Arsen Avakov for using Russian in speeches at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Despite the Revolution of Dignity and the rise of patriotism in Ukraine, a process of gradual russification continues. These are the results of an analytical overview, “The State of the Ukrainian Language in Ukraine in 2014-2015”, which was published by the NGO movement “Prostir Svobody”.
